How to Protect Your Laptop Data

How to Protect Your Laptop Data
Laptop computers are becoming more and more widely used then before. They are rapidly replacing desktop computers becoming many companies primary office tool. As survey data from 200 IT managers and stuffs of companies shows that 40 percent of them use notebook for working or building their network relationship. However, half of the companies indicated that they did not take some action to protect the commonly used documents or backup the important data for the later data recovery.

The survey, sponsored by Imation Corp, a worldwide leader in removable data storage media, also discovered that less than one-third (29 percent) of these companies use software to back up changed files to a corporate network. Additionally, 57 percent of companies hold the individual employee responsible for backing up data onto the company server.

With such a large number of small and mid-sized companies placing the responsibility for backing up laptops in the hands of their employees, Imation recommends the following tips to help end-users avoid potential data loss on their laptops:

1. Implement a software program that automatically backs up laptop data on a regular basis. Most programs work by having the software monitor the laptop hard drive for any changes to data files or directories. Changes are then backed up locally on the laptop’s hard drive. The next time the user connects to the company’s network, the backup software automatically sends the changes to a server for further backup to tape.

2. Copying laptop files to a network drive for further backup to removable tape media is also a common strategy for companies not employing special software. In this case, the user should review their company’s network backup processes to understand how often backups are performed. Here are a few questions users can review with their IT department:

- During regularly scheduled backups, what files, programs or folders get backed up?
- What time of day are backups performed?
- Where is the data stored and for how long?
- Once stored, how can the data be accessed?
Data protection means making sure that private data belonging to a person or organization is kept hidden from those who are not authorized to use it.
Many organization collect data of their customers. Some of this data is needed for efficient processing the business transactions but much of this data is personal information of the customer. For example, a hospital collects data about the disease history of patients. All the personal data kept by different organizations may be disclosed for some legal purpose. The data protection rules do not allow anyone to disclose personal data of any person. It means that any personal data kept by some organization should never be disclosed to unauthorized persons or organizations under any circumstances.

Principles of File Recovery

The Principles of File Recovery
Data recovery may be used frequently in our daily life. It will always result in the loss of some documents when accidently delete some folder or the operate system crashed. Then we will try many methods to recover the lost documents, such as finding a lot of data recovery software or finding some data recovery company to help to do so. In fact, if we know more about the principles of data storage, and data recovery principles. We can completely restore the lost documents all by yourselves.

Firstly, let's look at what happens when we intentionally delete a file and why it may be possible to bring that file back. When you select a file and press the delete key on a Windows computer, the file is sent to the Recycle Bin. You may think of the Windows Recycle Bin as just another fancy storage folder on your hard drive. The real deletion is what happens when the Recycle Bin is emptied or the deletion bypasses the Windows Recycle Bin altogether.

File Recovery Programs
There is no shortage of file recovery software to help you out if you delete the wrong file. There are numerous commercial file recovery programs, DOS has its own 'Undelete' command, and Windows has the familiar Recycle Bin. Except for Recycle Bin, they all work on the same principle of searching the hard drive for files that have recently been marked for overwriting. More advanced ones will also tell you how much of the file is recoverable by checking how much has been written over.

The seemingly simple Recycle Bin has one advantage over any third party file recovery program: it doesn't allow any overwriting of deleted files stored in there. This means that files from here are recovered in their entirety, and will function exactly as before once they are restored.

Obstacles to File Recovery
The biggest obstacle by far is time. The longer you wait, the higher the chance of a deleted file being written over, unless it is safely in the Recycle Bin. Once this has happened file recovery is still possible but it will take a lot more than a bit of commercial software to do it.

Operating systems are continuously creating files, every web page you visit does the same, and so does every application you open. With this in mind, the time to start your file recovery process is the instant that you realize you needed that file.

There are lots of data recovery software can be found in the markets, even some free data recovery tools have the some functions. But their works are certainly the same. So if you little knowledge of the working principle of data recovery and data storage of knowledge, you can recover the lost document all by yourselves.

Recover Deleted Photos from BlackBerry Phone

Recover Deleted Photos from BlackBerry Cell Phone
As one of the most popular mobile cell phones, Blackberry has been favored by many people worldwide. It uses the whole keyboard input, the operation is very convenient. And the artificial system is very user-friendly. And always with a very high pixel camera, which help to capture the interesting moment in our daily life.

However, there are so many times you may encounter precious photos accidentally deleted and thus wonder if there is a way to recover deleted photos from BlackBerry cell phones.

Well, there are more unpredictable cases that may lead photos deleted from BlackBerry cell phone. So why those situations happen and are there any chances to recover those photos?

As a matter of fact, the memory card or stick in BlackBerry is just like an external hard drive. When connected to the computer and photos inside accidentally got deleted, those deleted photos won’t go to the recycle bin or trash. But that doesn’t necessarily mean the photos are deleted permanently. No matter the photos are deleted from BlackBerry phone card or computer recycle bin or trash, all the photos can be recovered provided that they are not fully covered or occupied. The deleted photos are still intact out there in BlackBerry cell phone card or computer hard disk if transferred. The System only marks those photos as deleted but the real data are safe just inaccessible. As a result, once you find your photos are deleted from BlackBerry phone memory card, stop putting more files to the card ASAP.

Then the most effective and efficient way to recover deleted photos from BlackBerry cell phone is by using third party photo recovery software. As those recovery programs will use advanced algorithm to analyze the deleted data from the card then perform photo recovery. Just install the program on your computer, and connect your BlackBerry phone memory card to start recovery.

If you are using Windows operation system, recommend you to have a try Wondershare Photo Recovery. It’s an easy to use and powerful recovery program which recover deleted photos, videos and music from computer hard drive, external storage devices such as memory card or iPod etc. It only needs two steps to recover the lost picture or video documents.

1. Store drive scan. Before recover the lost documents, the photo recover program need to scan the SD card driver to find all the lost documents.
2. Recover the needed documents. After scan the SD card drive, the photo recover program will list all the documents that have been accidently deleted from the SD card drive. Then you just need to select the photos all videos that you want to recover and click the “recover” bottom.

Tip: in order to increase the chances to recover deleted photos from BlackBerry phone memory card, it is strongly recommended not to save more files when you notice your photos are deleted.

How Data Storaged on Hard Disk

Hard Disk is the main storage space inside our computers. The Hard Disk is a permanent storage component such as RAM. But hardly know how the data is stored on the hard disk. The Hard disks use circular platters to store data. They are a mirror like. When you 'save' data to the hard disk, the disk will follow a logical system. And here we will introduce you the storage method of the hard disk.

The key concept of data storage is that it is linear, logical and systematic in nature. When you 'save' data to the hard disk, the disk will follow a logical system.

The second key concept to remember is that data storage follows a simple rule – data is stored (or 'written') on the first available space, wherever this may be.

Data Storage Example
Imagine that you are saving a 1-Mb Word document on the hard disk. Saving a 1 MB file means the disk will systematically 'fill in' a thousand squares.

After saving the Word document, let us assume that you saved to your hard disk a 3 MB photo. Following the key concepts of data storage, the disk writer head will go through the disk and then look for the first available space – which in our example, happens to be the square following the last kilobyte of the Word document. Thus, the 3 MB photo will be saved at the space next to the Word document.

Afterwards, you go back to your Word document and trim it down, ending up with a file 700 KB in size, which you then save to your hard disk. Given the smaller file size, the 1 MB space requirement was reduced to 700 KB, leaving 300 KB free or (using the analogy above) 300 blank squares immediately after the Word document. There's now available space between the Word Document and the 3 MB photo.

When you save yet another file, say a 2 MB Excel file, the hard disk will follow its rule of saving data on the first available space. Thus, the Excel file will be split into two portions: 300 KB would be written on the 300 KB free space and the rest will be placed in the next available space – after the image file.

The Problem
Data storage, while designed to be logical and systematic, leads to file fragmentation. Imagine adding, deleting files and editing files for days, weeks and months. After a few months, the hard disk will become so fragmented that it would take the disk a lot of time to find fragments of a single file, and the lost documents is nearly can’t be restore only if you take advantage of some data recover software to do so.

How to Select Mobile Hard Disk

How to Select Mobile Hard Disk

For most ordinary users, they concerned about the storage capacity more than the concern of safety performance. They will care about the data security only if the capacity has met the demand. Although capacity is an important factor we should concern, but the stable and security features are always more important in fact. And this won’t make users to care about that until some problems occurred on their mobile hard disks.

Some mobile hard disk drive manufacturers cooperate with the hard disc manufacturers. They install 3D seismic in the hard drive to determine the hard disk by supporting the work of the state. Thus supporting the hard disk will be forced to move to safe area head. Specifically, the chip can predict the working status of the hard disk, mobile hard disk, such as making copies of data, play movies, which are hard to read and write heads of the operation, the chip to work. If you do not do mobile hard disk accidentally touched off the table, the process in the fall, when the acceleration reaches a certain degree of time, the chip can be detected, and then immediately stop working so hard, and hard drive head to a safe location to avoid damage by the hard disc.

In addition, the enclosure of the mobile hard drive is also very important. Mobile hard disk enclosure not only to the role of mobile hard disk appearance, it has protection. Metal in the impact performance of the best, but the shell of this material is not perfect. First of all, this material can be deformed shell is rather poor, in the sudden severe attacks by the time the impact of the internal hard drive is still not small. In contrast plastic shell shock by the sudden deformation will produce tiny, weakened the impact, so that better protect the safety of the hard disk. Do not underestimate the small deformation of plastic materials, which can be reduced to the original impact by five times.

The second is the heat. Disadvantage of plastic is not conducive to heat loss, but this is precisely the advantages of metal. Metals are the positive conductor, heat large majority of mobile hard disk with metal case. But it is not absolute, with the hard drive technology, the temperature continued to read and write drives down a lot than before, so the plastic shell is gradually replace the metal position. Tightness of the shell is a topic that people do not often mentioned, but a well-designed mobile hard disk, the seal is forced to care about stealth design. Can ensure a good seal mobile hard disk drive cartridge in the event of an accident will not be water or other liquid pollutants harm. They use a plastic molding design. You can very well ensure the safety of mobile hard disk.

You should consider all the above requirements when purchase a good mobile hard drive. But also need regularly backup your important documents to prevent accidents from happening. And this will always save much data recovery work.

How to Recover Lost Disk Partitions

How to Recover Lost Disk Partitions?

Windows operating systems have evolved greatly from the time where hard drives were segmented off using a simple disk DOS command. Beginning with FAT16 and FAT32 systems complex partitioning was created so as to allow specialized applications to run. This process improved further with the advent of the NTFS file system. Of course as things evolve they become more sophisticated and this often means that they are more prone to problems.

For example, if you accidentally deleted or lost a partition containing important data, what can you do to access the important data on the deleted or lost partition?

These problems create a genuine need for a quality program for data recovery. And there are lots of tools in the market can help to recover the lost partition. And now, I take Wondershare Date recovery to show how to resolute the problem.

Wondershare Data Recovery is magic partition recovery software for computer users to recover lost or deleted partitions and repair your partition problems, say, partition cannot be accessed.

The first is Quick Scan: This scan finds all the partitions when there is some corruption with the MBR of Windows or it is missing or deleted. This scan can easily locate all the lost partitions in no time and allows Windows data recovery components to recover partition data.

Wondershare Data Recovery can help you to repair partition table and recover lost or deleted partitions except for physical damage, or hard disk (or other storage medium) failure. It is safe to use for only recovering your partitions through modifying partition table or boot sector, which means the software will never attempt to write to data area of the drive you are want to recover. Partition Table Doctor manages for MS-DOS, Windows 95/98/Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows 2003.

The second we call Thorough Scan: This is the advanced form of lost partition recovery. This disk scanning method is extremely helpful when a drive is re-partitioned or resized. Finding older or reformatted partition is extremely difficult, this is the reason why this method scans the drive heuristically and tries to locate and validate lost partitions. For e.g. on a 40 GB drive having 2 equal sized partitions (both NTFS) now re-partitioned and reformatted as two partitions, one 10 GB as NTFS and the rest space 30GB formatted as NTFS. Thorough scan designed and offered by Windows data recovery software is efficient enough to locate those two older 20 GB NTFS partitions to recover and restore lost data.

All that is required to recover lost partitions is to attach the faulty drive, set as a secondary drive, to another working PC and install Disk Doctors Windows Data Recovery Software. The software will scan the failed drive and locate all of the lost partition data

6 Special features of PDF

PDF, Portable Document format, as a documents format is widely used in different kinds of field. So what makes PDF so special? Well, here we've listed six outstanding features of PDF to explain that and help you get more familiar with PDF so that you can better make use of it.

PDF files are viewable and printable on virtually any platform, including Windows®, Mac OS, and mobile platforms such as Android™.

Security (Encryption, Digital Signatures)
PDF supports different levels of encryption, access control, and digital signatures. This makes it attractive for processing sensitive documents that are sent over the internet or used in web browser applications. PDF documents can be encrypted such that their contents cannot be reconstructed without knowing the password.

PDF objects, especially images, can be highly compressed with different compression algorithms without a visible loss of quality. A PDF file can be a fraction the size of the original file.

Random Access
PDF files can be randomly accessed. For example, if you want to view page 733 in an 800-page document, PDF can identify and load the objects needed to display page 733 first. You do not have to wait for the entire file to load before the page can be viewed.

Graphics separated from rendering

PDF separates graphics (shapes and colors) from rendering (raster output device). The appearance of pages is specified in the PDF file in a device-independent way. Rendering the pages can be optimized based.

Font Management

All fonts used in a PDF file can be embedded in the file, guaranteeing that the text will look exactly the same when the file is reproduced. To save space fonts can be subset, i.e. the fonts only contain those parts that are really needed.

With the above five features, PDF shows great advantage over some other common-used formats. Get to know more here so that you can make the most of it to meet any of your needs.

How to restore Photos from iPhone

iPhone is used more and more frequently, and many people may own their iPhone. One of the most common uses of iPhone is camera. Because its pixels is very high and easy for carry. We carry it around nearly anytime. After taking new images, we are curious to check if the images are nice or just so-so. Sometimes we may accidentally press wrong button. We delete images instead of saving. So, what should we do now? if the deleted photos can be recover?

Of course, the answer is yes. However, we should learn some knowledge about the data storage theory of memory card or hard disk first. The image hasn't been permanently deleted, and we can still undelete image from iPhone. Because what you deleted is the entry index which says what and where the file is. The space in which the deleted file located is available for immediate and re-useable use. It means that the space can be occupied by new file at anytime. So Time is of the essence. The success to undelete image depends more or less on how quickly you act! Therefore you must act fast and try not to upload any new images, or videos onto the iPhone. Doing so minimizes the chances of the space in question being overwritten by new files, thus increasing the likelihood of success to undelete image from iPhone.

PDF Password

For the man who uses PDF documents would have encountered that some PDF files are locked, which means, they cannot be copied, printed or even opened. And the reason is what I want to talk about today: about PDF password.

Generally speaking, there are two types of pdf passwords to PDF files. One is open password and the other is user password. The two kinds of protection are used for different situations: the former prevents people from viewing documents while the latter makes copying and printing unavailable.

User Password
Also known as open password. If you were familiar with this kind of password, it is possible to unlock PDF file quickly. Or if not, things would become complicated, as there is no easy way to rip PDF password. Many PDF apps which claim have to use some universal methods such as Brute Force Attack and Dictionary Search, but you have to bear the unbearably slow speed. Imagine it, your computer runs for a whole day to remove user password. What a time-wasting work. That's terrible, isn't it?

Usually, we need to ask the publisher for the open password to unlock it. However, sometimes, it is impossible, because we could not find the author message. Of course, PDF Password Recovery can manage it. You need to make it legitimate previously.

Owner Password
It is a sort of PDF restriction rather than a type of password. Many people use it out of consideration of copyright. They want to their work retained as what they were in the beginning. Or they hate copycats. However, people who are authorized may still face such a problem. Fortunately, you can find many PDF Password Crackers are made to crack owner password and they really work very well.

There is much software available for owner password. The most common used is PDF Password Remover, which would make restricted PDF documents unrestricted quickly.

In conclusion, these two kinds of PDF password are both useful for copyright protection. You can use any one of them to requirements. And you can set both open password and user password to the same PDF document.
